What is a CLT?

A Community Land Trust (CLT) is a not for profit organisation. They are set-up to benefit a specific community, in our case the Parish of Langton Matravers. It is independently run by volunteers from the community. Anyone can become a member if they are 16 years old or above, support the aims of the CLT and buy one share in the CLT for £1.

A member of the CLT has one vote at members meetings no matter how many shares they hold. The CLT is registered with the Financial Conduct Authority as a Community
Benefit Society.

What can CLTs do?

Community-led Projects run by ordinary people living or working in the community.

This may involve developing and managing homes as well as other assets

Our first project aims to provide affordable housing for rent, for people and families with a strong local connection to the Parish

CLTsdevelop and manage assets in partnership with delivery organisations such as a Housing Association

CLTs act as long-term stewards of housing, ensuring that the housing remains genuinely affordable, not just for now, but in perpetuity
